Day 2 Wrap-Up

Well, another weekend of high-level Goats has passed, and one thing is certain: Jazz is the best active player in the modern era.
By the end of Day 1, his hopes of top 8 were looking grim. With losses to Winter and Teofilo Callanaupa in Swiss, he squeaked in to top 8 at 6th place. There, he faced Logan Johnson's innovative Hand Control deck, pulling out a relatively convincing win after dropping the first game of the match. After that, he went down 1-2 to Nate Honsou's Chaos Turbo deck before rattling off two straight wins, both from behind. In the finals, he faced off with Marco Gheri's Gearfried deck. It all came down to game 5, where a slight but critical technical error ultimately cost Gheri the game and left Jazz with his second premier win in a row!

Jazz's win here this weekend elevated him to the #1 spot in the GoatRank Modern standings and marks the first time since last summer that an active player could truly be called "dominant" in the format. In this diverse top 8 that saw a resurgence of the Aggro decks that had fallen by the wayside of the format since the loss of Exarion, Jazz proved once again that good old Goat Control can still persevere. Goat duelists will have a bit of a break until March, when we'll have the 2nd FLC as well as this season's DuelistGroundz.com playoffs, but for now, the Goat community stands in awe at Jazz, our new #1-ranked active player. Congratulations to Jazz, the first-ever Format Library Champion!
