Day 2 Wrap-Up

5/1/2018

Comments

The dust has settled, and against all odds, Burn is the last deck left standing. Shane has completed his explosive return to Goat Format with a win here today at FLC3!
Picture
In an unprecedented run, Shane didn't drop a single game in either of his best-of-5 matches on Day 2, showing off his unique Burn deck's supremacy in control matchups. He began his run with a 3-0-1 win over MMF, whose Goat Control deck was also featured earlier. That left him to face FLC mainstay Carl Waite and his signature Chaos Control deck in Grand Finals, where Shane pulled off what looked like an impossible upset and took the set 3-0 in commanding fashion, seizing the title of Champion over a diverse Top 4 of four different decks!

However, Shane was far from the only duelist to add to his legacy this weekend. Carl Waite continued his trend of top performances since his Top 8 at FLC1 and Top 4 at FLC2. MMF, usually known in the FLC circuit for their work on coverage and commentary, uncharacteristically piloted a "pure" Goat Control to an undefeated Swiss finish to add a cherry on top of their second consecutive DuelistGroundz Seasonal Playoff win just weeks earlier. Kuro-sama finally broke through to Day 2 after back-to-back bubble performances at the first two FLCs, and WorldGoneMaad's title run narrowly escaped his grasp once again, falling short at 6th place in Swiss despite his 4-1 record. Nonetheless, the biggest winner this weekend was undoubtedly Burn, not only because it won the event, but also because of all of the innovations showcased throughout the performances of Shane, Gipsyking, Skelter, Rydia, and more. Congratulations, once again, to Shane, our third Format Library Champion!

Since Gipsyking was unable to make it here for Day 2, Shane was given the chance to play in his spot instead, having finished 5th in Swiss. And if you thought Gipsyking's deck was crazy, just wait until you see what Shane's got in store for the other Top 4 competitors.

Day 2 Deck Profile: MMF's Goat Aggro-Control

5/1/2018

Fresh off an impressive victory in the DuelistGroundz Winter Seasonal Individual Playoff, MMF is making another statement this weekend with a new take on the classic Goat Control list. They’re not just an Aggro / Combo player!
Picture
MMF has made a name for themselves in the Goat Format community by using analytics to study player tendencies and select the perfect counters to their opponents. Today, they clearly applied that approach successfully to the FLC metagame, expecting to face a lot of Goat Control, Chaos Turbo, Aggro, and a wide variety of rogue lists.

Day 1 Intro

Welcome to the 3rd Format Library Championship!
Attendance for this weekend's tournament comes in at 28 competitors, which means we'll have 5 rounds of Swiss on Saturday followed by a cut to Top 4 on Day 2. The field today looks extremely competitive. Format Library's own MMF is entering their first FLC, after having just won the DGZ Seasonal Playoff, making them a notable favorite. The reigning champ, Dinosaur_Ryuzaki, has shown up looking to defend his title. The people's champ, Carl Waite, is going for an unprecedented 3rd straight FLC top. And WorldGoneMaad is simply trying not to get disqualified this time...

In addition to those known commodities, we have a few very strong dark-horses lurking in the crowd. Spoiler Alert: this metagame breakdown is going to be unlike any FLC tournament to date.

On the mic today, we have Masha and Jazz providing Day 1 streaming and commentary. Stay tuned for an exciting weekend of coverage!
